Is it really so hip to be square? The round beach towel — also known as The Roundie — challenges summer norms, taking on the traditionally shaped rectangular beach towel as the go-to for the beaches, boats, and docks of Muskoka.
Leading the charge is Canada’s Tofino Towel Co., makers of “the original west coast round towel.” About three years ago, owners Devin Sorenson and Glendon Evans, based in Tofino, B.C., asked themselves why-oh-why traditional beach towels are rectangular rather than round. Lay a circular towel down once and you’re good — no need to turn it to stay in the sun. The Roundie’s broad size and thick fabric are also ideal for picnics, yoga, lounging in park, or for spicing up summer house décor.

The Tofino Towel Co. works with local designers and major artists, coming up with boho and fringed creations that look good both inside and out. For sale online or in stores in Muskoka, design names include Long Beach, Live to Surf, and MuskokaStyle’s lake-blue favourite: The Chesterman (shown).
Indeed, it may no longer be hip to be square.
