One antidote to a long, slow, grey winter: bursts of vibrant spring colour. Playful resort brights, sorbets, fun retro-pop florals — all make a splash on 2016’s Spring fashion scene. MuskokaStyle paused the presses to converse with Kaitlin, retail director at Island View, the Lilly Pulitzer Signature Store in Port Carling, Muskoka. Here are five of her favourite ways to bust the winter blues and dress brightly this cottage season.
#1 Think Pink
On trend for Spring 2016? Swinging 60’s. Lighthearted, playful resort brights that combine shades to create sorbet duos. Bold, modern, retro-pop florals and fun prints. Plus pink, pink and more pink!

#2 Shift into Spring
This Spring it’s all about the shift dress, again — Jackie Kennedy was wearing riveting A-line Lilly Pulitzer numbers long before we were born. In 2016, invest in a shift dress, a knit dress, a romper, and colourful shorts to make your blouse pop.

#3 Love your Lake
Relaxed leisure is big this season. Liquid blue, aqua, and lagoon shades create a water-inspired palette. Think: shades of greens and aquas surrounded by white. Focus on spiraling brushstrokes inspired by lake winds swirling through the leaves.

#4 Get Busy with Geometric Patterns
Mix 70’s geometrics with layered off register florals. Photo-optic floral motifs are abstracted and mixed with graphic angles. Finally, a Pulitzer signature: leafy lily pad designs.

#5 Pass the Frutopia
Fruity citrus shades are popular colour options: pink, melon, and sunglow yellow surrounded by textured resort whites. Choose super lightweight or lacy fabrics that are breezy and gauzy for a look of laid-back luxe.
