Nautical Flag Fashion

Colour-blocked swimwear takes on a luxe new nautical look at the hands of Megan Balch and Jaime Barker, a New York design duo who met in high school and hung out in the South Florida surf. Searching for swimwear that could handle the thundering waves and whistling wind of Atlantic beaches, Balch and Barker came up dry. Solution: In 2013 they launched Flagpole Swim — a  sleek line of colour-blocked swimwear able to stay put in the pound of the surf. What’s fun is the designing duo’s nod to nautical flags — those snappy, wind-blown bits of fabric in bright blocks of blue, red, yellow, and orange — not to mention the swimwear’s filmscreen-siren names, example: The Kelly… as in Grace Kelly. Best part: Flagpole Swim’s sleek Navy-friendly silouettes are able to carry you from beach to evening in one smooth stroke.
